Louise Young Grice Montgomery

July 23, 1928 — September 22, 2023

Florence

At the age of 95, Frances Louise (“Louise”) Young Grice Montgomery of Florence, Mississippi went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 22, 2023. Louise’s strong will to live, unwavering faith in God and the love and prayers of family, friends and many supporters carried her throughout the years of her life.

Louise was born on July 23, 1928 in Hazlehurst, Mississippi to Frank and Aline Young.  When Louise turned 20 years of age, she met and married the love of her life, Jack Grice from Blue Lake, Mississippi.  Louise spent much of her early life as a wife and mother to her 3 children, Ronald Jack (“Ron”), Judith Lynn (“Judy”) and Richard Allen (“Dick”).  As her children grew older, Louise spent her professional career managing apartment complexes in Jackson, Mississippi and later in Houston, Texas.  They lived in numerous locations around the country and the world due to her husband’s job in the oil industry.  This created a love of travel that Louise carried throughout the rest of her life.

In their early retirement, Jack and Louise moved to Terry, Mississippi to be closer to their children and grandchildren.  They purchased their first home in Terry and joined First Baptist Church of Terry.  A woman of faith and the heart of the Grice family, Louise shaped their spirituality through her tireless Christian example.  She was involved in various prayer groups and ladies activities throughout the church.  Even after losing her husband, Jack, and her son, Dick within days of each other in 1991, Louise held tight to her faith and the support of her church and community.

The epitome of a southern belle, Louise was a graceful hostess and loved to entertain.  Louise was always poised and gracious to friends and strangers alike.  Holidays with family were a special time to spent with her family.  Nana, as she was affectionately called by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, greatest joy was the love she received from their visits.  Louise excelled at gardening and was a member of the Terry Garden Club and the Women’s Club.  Several years later and entering a new stage in life, Louise moved to Florence, Mississippi.  In her new community, she found a great new circle of friends at First Baptist Church of Florence and Cleary Heights and immersed herself in that community’s activities.  Louise led a long and full life of joyful Christian fellowship.

Louise was preceded in death by both her parents, Frank and Aline Young, her husband, Jack Grice; her son, Richard Allen (“Dick”) Grice; her grandson, Dustin Allen Grice and her brothers, Frank Young, Jr. and Bob Young.

Louise is survived by her numerous family members, including nieces and nephews, but mainly include:

Her two children: Ronald Jack (Sara) Grice, her daughter, Judith Bailey and her son-Dick’s wife, Carlise Grice.

Her 4 Grandchildren: Richard Scott (Kate) Bailey, Amanda Jean (Russell) Brock, Geoffrey Conner (Tiffany) Grice, Ronald Matthew (Dana) Grice.

Her 11 Great Grandchildren: Austin, Emma Grace, Brelynn, Radford, Sadie, Tatum, Georgia, Noah, Luke, Mattie, and Lucy.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church of Terry or St. Jude’s Children Hospital, as these organizations were important to her.
