Lowell Douglas Carter, age 61 of Utica, MS died Monday, January 7, 2013 at River Region Hospital, Vicksburg, MS.\ \ He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray B. and Gladys S. Carter, and brother Bruce Carter. He is survived by his long time companion and mother of his children, Sheila Carter; sons Wayne D. Carter (Andrea) and Darren M. Carter. Grandchildren Macy and Megan Carter; sisters Kathy C. Covington and Linda C. Comans and his Welsh Corgie dog Molly.\ \ Lowell was a graduate of Byram High School, Hinds Jr. College and Mississippi State University where he received a Bachelors degree in Forestry. He had worked for MS Forestry Commission, Georgia Pacific and St. Regis Paper Company before becoming an independent land and timber buyer and owner of Edwards Forest Products Inc. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting rabbit, turkey and deer. Lowell provided handicapped children an opportunity to hunt through Hunting for the Handicapped on his property. He won many state championships in the AQHA Reining and Pleasure Competitions and enjoyed training horses for others. Lowell was a natural athlete, excelling in all sports. He enjoyed dirt track racing and as owner of Edwards Forest Products, sponsored car number 22L in UMP modified and late model races across the southeast. \ \ Family and friends will gather at 2:30pm Saturday, January 12 and celebrate Lowell's life at 3:30pm at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram.\ \ The family would like to express gratitude to Lowell's lifelong friends who have been there for him throughout the years.\ \ On line guest book available at www.chancellorfuneralhome.com.\
