Lucian Eldredge Shields Jr.

Lucian Eldredge Shields, Jr. of Florence, MS, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. He was age 79. Lucian was born to Lucian Eldredge Shields, Sr. and Myra Delle Griffin Shields of Calhoun County in North Mississippi. 

He proudly served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He was a retired salesman and truckdriver. He enjoyed years of hunting, trading tractors, fishing, camping, and spending time with his family. When he was born, his mother thought he was such a “pretty boy”. This resonated and as his family grew, he would be known as “Pert.”  

Lucian was married to Kay Graham Shields. He and Kay recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. It was a special day that was spent with their children by their side. He was a member of Dry Creek Baptist Church where he enjoyed fellowship and friendships of the church body. Lucian loved hearing and singing hymns in the church. The hymns reminded him of how everlasting the Word of God is and how HIS presence is in every circumstance.  

Lucian is survived by his wife, Kay Shields, son, Justin Shields (Cindy), daughters, Cindy Shields McCord, Angela Shields Park (Paul), brother, Douglas Shields (Marie), sisters Lynn Moore and Lena Robertson. Stepchildren, Chris Griffith-Pittman (Christopher) and Shane Griffith (Maggie). 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.  

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lucian and Myra Shields, sister, Frances Reaves (Buddy), and son-in-law, Brian McCord. 

The family would like to thank the staff at UMMC for the care Lucian received, the phone calls from family and friends, the visits, the encouragement and the prayers that helped make his days better while in the hospital.  

Services are as follows: Chancellor Funeral Home, Florence, MS Visitation- Friday, December 13, 2024, from 10:00-12:00 Funeral Services begin at 12:00 with an immediate graveside service at Chancellor Cemetery.
