Lydia Mae Lee Parish Hood passed away with her family by her side on December 14, 2021 at St. Dominic in Jackson, MS after an accidental fall. Visitation will be Friday, December 17, 2021 from 12:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at 2:00 p.m. at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram, MS. Interment will follow at Bethesda Baptist Church Cemetery. Lydia was born on November 05, 1939 to Samuel Loyd Lee and Bennettie Jennings Lee in Attala County, MS. Lydia attended McCool High School and graduated in 1959 as Salutatorian of her class. She married her childhood sweetheart, Ertie D. Parish in 1958 and moved to Jackson, where she became employed by Southern Bell Telephone as an information operator, later a dial service clerk, and on to become Bellsouth manager of network administration for the state of Mississippi, the job she held at the time of her retirement in 1991. Beginning in 1984, she also served 37 years on the River Trust Credit Union Board of Directors as the secretary/treasurer. She worshipped at the Siwell Road Church of Christ for many years. There, she worked tirelessly behind the scenes helping anyone she could by providing food, transportation, etc. as long as her health permitted. Lydia was preceded in death by her husband, mother, father, brother, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She his survived by her husband, H.D. Hood, Sr.; one brother, Donald L. Lee (Mary); one sister, Darlene Easterling (Danny); six nephews; one niece; many great-nieces and great-nephews; cousins; and dear friends. Lydia loved helping others, especially the elderly and handicapped. She was always providing transportation for people who needed to get somewhere and couldn’t take themselves—the doctor, grocery, worship service, and various other places. She loved working in her yard, crocheting, doing word searches, cooking, and enjoying friends and family. Lydia loved God and her family. She was always there for her family if they needed her.
