Margie Mahaffey Ainsworth, 98, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2016, at her residence in Hoover, Alabama. Margie was born September 27, 1917, in Harrisville, Mississippi, to Clarence and Ola Mae Mahaffey. She graduated from Harrisville High School in April, 1936, and then attended William Carey College. Margie soon became a teacher for Simpson County Schools. On May 5, 1941, she married Roy Neely Ainsworth, her sweetheart since elementary school. Once Roy joined the Army, he and Margie were stationed in El Paso, Texas, where they welcomed their only son, Roy Neely Ainsworth, Jr., on December 19, 1943. After returning to Mississippi, they finally settled and built their home in Richland. They attended Richland United Methodist Church where Margie served as treasurer for quite some time. In addition, her love of learning and history drew her to work as a librarian at the Pearl Public Library for a number of years. For Roy and Margie, family was of utmost importance so the time-honored tradition of Sunday lunch was reserved for spending time with them. Margie’s favorite past-times included gardening, reading, cataloging her “clippins”, and sharing coffee and ice cream at McDonalds with her treasured friends and family. All who knew Margie were drawn to her lovable charm and firecracker wit. And her sweet smile and giggling were contagious to everyone around her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Neely Ainsworth, Sr., and their son, Roy Neely Ainsworth, Jr. Margie is survived by her daughter-in-law, Gaynell McAdams Ainsworth, her grandchildren, Christy Swords, Bethany Clayton Held, and Dory Wallace, as well as her great-grandchildren, Jacob, Samantha, and Julia Swords and Walker and Menley Clayton. Visitation will take place Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at 1:00 pm with services immediately following at 1:30 pm at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence, Mississippi. She will be laid to rest in Harrisville Cemetery.
