Margie Ann Gray Cumberland, 87, of Florence passed away on Thursday, September 5th, 2024. The family will receive friends for visitation from 2:00-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Marvin United Methodist Church in Florence. The memorial service will follow the visitation at 3:00 p.m.
Margie was born on October 10, 1936, to Otis Gray and Ozema McClain Gray in Kemper County. Margie went on to graduate from Bloomo High School in Philadelphia. After graduation Margie worked at General Electric Light Manufacturing Facility in Jackson Ms. for 30 years. She also was the nanny for the children of Governor Ray Mabus. She served as an assistant to Mr. Mabus when he was the Ambassador to Saudi Arabia and United States Secretary of the Navy.
She always thought of others before herself, never hesitating to help anyone in need. In her younger years Margie enjoyed water skiing with her family, bowling, square dancing, pistol shooting, arts and crafts, volunteering in many community projects and gardening. She enjoyed playing dominoes with family and friends at Plainview Assistrd Living Facility. Margie also enjoyed watching basketball.
Margie is preceded in death by her husband, Glynn Bernard Cumberland; her parents, Otis Gray and Osama McLean Gray; sister, May Williamson; brothers, Otis Gray Jr., and Jerry Gray. She is survived by her sister, Betty Gray Roberts; her children, Bobby Glynn Cumberland, and Randy (Mark) Cumberland (Lisa); two grandchildren, Randy (Patrick) Cumberland, and Benjamin (Ben) Mark Cumberland and several nieces and nephews.
