Marjorie Beatrice Mangum Lewis, age 99, died on Wednesday, March 26, 2024, in Oxford at an assisted-living facility where she had been residing. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 29, 2024, from 10 o’clock until 11 o’clock with the service to follow immediately at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram, Mississippi.
She is survived by her children: Toya Beatrice Lewis Bruss (Bob), Carl Dewitt Lewis, Jr. (Debbie), Cheri Dell Lewis Shack (Charles), and Kevin Maurice Lewis (Sandy). She also leaves behind nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, three neices and one nephew.
Mrs. Lewis was born in Copiah County, Mississippi, on June 17, 1924, to Robert Edward Mangum and Aletha Bell Rhodes Mangum. She was the youngest of four sisters and two brothers, all of whom have preceded her in death.
On July 3, 1941, Mrs. Lewis married Carl Dewitt Lewis, Sr., in Hinds County, Mississippi. They were married until Mr. Lewis’ death on October 31, 2011.
A lifelong resident of Byram, Mississippi, and a member of Spring Ridge United Methodist Church, Mrs. Lewis retired in 1986 as the food service manager of Byram High School.
She leaves behind a grieving, but grateful family for the many memories of a life well-lived.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Spring Ridge United Methodist Church, 1083 Davis Road, Terry, Mississippi, 39170.
