Martha Ray Ferrell passed into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at her home in the Monterey community. She was 81 years old. The family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday, November 6th from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence. The Graveside Service will begin at 3:00 p.m. in the Garden of Memories.
Mrs. Ferrell was born August 7, 1941, to the late William and Mary Phillips in Indianola, MS. She lived most of her life in the Jackson/Richland area and was a member of First Baptist Church in Florence. She loved the Lord and her family. She retired from Frito-Lay with 28 years of service where she was a packer, but her true profession was being a mother and she exemplified those qualities. She was a wonderful mother to her children and all kids. She was known in Richland as Maw Bunk and her home was the site of many backyard football games and always a haven for all the community kids. She was also an excellent cook who could take a little and make a meal fit for a King.
Along with her parents, Mrs. Ferrell was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Ferrell; son, Michael Bunkley; brother, Paul “Buddy” Eugene Phillips; sisters, Maddie Maude Phillips, Gladys Mae Phillips Ross, Mary Alice Phillips-Daniels, Ollie Ruth Phillips Barrett, and Annette Phillips West.
She is survived by her children, Eddie (Peggy) Bunkley of Florence, Tony Bunkley of Pearl, and Tim (Jennifer) Bunkley of Florence, and Karen (Hal) Bowman of Cullman, AL; sisters, Willie Belle Phillips Hood of Yazoo City, Jo Anne Phillips Sims of Hernando, and Joyce Phillips Rogers of Hartselle, AL; as well as 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
