Martha Harkins

Mrs. Martha Mahaffey Harkins, 90, completed her earth's journey Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at Brandon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Brandon. Visitation is Wednesday, January 9, 5 - 7 p.m.at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence. Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home chapel with interment at Harrisville Cemetery.\ \ Mrs. Harkins lived a rewarding long life giving of herself to her family and many lives of those she touched in her career as a public school teacher in both Mississippi and Louisiana. In addition to her gift of teaching she was an avid artist. She was a member of Richland United Methodist Church.\ \ She is preceded in death by her late husband, Rev. George W. Harkins; brothers: Clyde Mahaffey, Kenneth Mahaffey, James W. Mahaffey, Paul Mahaffey and Lewis Dale Mahaffey.\ \ She is survived by a son: George Harkins and wife Beth of Florence; daughter, Kathleen Daughdrill and husband Wayne of Monroe, LA; two sisters: Margie Ainsworth of Richland and Kathleen Wood of Clinton; two grandchildren: Preston and Rachel Harkins both of Florence.\
