Mrs. Mary Smith Ball

Mary Smith Ball of Jackson passed away peacefully at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. Visitation will be Thursday, August 18th from 5-7 PM and Friday, August 19th from 9 AM until the 10 AM Funeral Service at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence. Burial will follow at Batesville City Cemetery (Magnolia Cemetery) in Batesville, MS. Mary was born March 11, 1924 and lived the early part of her life in Batesville, MS. She wed Quinton Crane Ball of Pontotoc, and they moved their family to Jackson in the early 1950’s, but Quinton passed away in 1966. Following his death, Mary worked at Baptist Hospital while attending night classes, and soon after began working at McCarty-Holman in Jackson where she retired after over twenty years. She was a charter member of Covenant Christian Church and was as devoted to her church family as they were to her. Mrs. Ball was preceded in death by her husband, Q.C. Ball; her son Q.C. "Billy" Ball, Jr.; and her grandson, Marc Ball. She is survived by her sons David (Beth) Ball of Pearl, and John E. (Cherrie) Ball of Carriere; four grandchildren, Karen (Bill) Daniel of Louisville, KY, Tommy (Robin) Ball of Madison, John Ball of Brandon, and Michelle (Sam) Martin of Florence, and six great-grandchildren. Donations can be made in lieu of flowers to Covenant Christian Church of Byram, MS.
