Mary Emma Carter Kelly, 85, passed away Monday, October 29, 2018 at Willow Creek Nursing Home in Byram. Visitation will be 10am until the 11:30am funeral service Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Wynndale Presbyterian Church. Rev. Dr. Mark Spellman will officiate. Mary Carter Kelly was born and reared in Yazoo City, Mississippi, predeceased by her parents, James Owen Carter and Margaret Ellen Beesley Carter. She graduated from Yazoo City High School in 1951. Ms. Kelly worked for the Mississippi Department of Transportation, as an executive secretary-Chief Engineers office, from 1953 until retirement in 1995. She was predeceased by her husband, Isaiah B. Kelly, by four brothers, and by one sister. Ms. Kelly was a very active member of her community. She was a member of The Friends of Terry, and acted in quite a few of the plays held in the Terry Depot. She also participated in the Red Hat Society, Terry Womans’ Club, Cursillo, Mississippi Valley Presbytery, Silver Belles, and Palestine Homemakers Club. Ms. Kelly is survived by her sister, June Carter Thomas, niece Rose Ellen Lindsey, grand-niece Shannon Lindsey, and numerous beloved nephews and nieces. She is also survived by special friends, Barbara Anderson (lifelong friend), Marian McClintock, Shirley Rutland, Margie Smith, Mary Joyce Shelton, all from the Byram area, and by Doris Gamble of Alabama.
