Ms. Mary Ellen Gray Tatum, 77, passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at Silver Cross Health & Rehabilitation Center in Brookhaven, MS. After suffering from health issues the last four years, Mary Ellen has been reunited with her parents and siblings in heaven. Ms. Tatum was born on July 25, 1942 in Germantown, TN. She has lived in Byram, MS for many years of her adult life, and attended Spring Ridge United Methodist Church, as well as previously being a member of St. Therese Catholic Church in Jackson MS. She graduated from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Memphis TN as a Registered Nurse, and worked for 45 years as an RN in the Jackson metropolitan area. She had a passionate love for serving others through nursing and charitable works in the community. Mary Ellen enjoyed her hobbies of word puzzles, garage saling, and loving on all of God's creatures large and small. Mary Ellen was known affectionately as "Granny Girl" and "MoMo Mary" by her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Benson and Julia Gray; her sister Dorothy Doran Finton; and her two brothers, Dr. J. Don Johnson of Memphis TN and William T. "Butchie" Gray of Jackson MS. She leaves behind her two daughters, Kelley Evans of Irving, TX, and Monique Brown-Barrett of Byram, MS; one son, Kevin Bordelon of Richland MS; and four grandchildren; grandson, Joshua Evans of Irving TX; granddaughters, Ashley Evans of Irving TX, Ashlynn Schruff of Franklin TN, and Brittany Brown of Byram MS. Services for Mary Ellen will be held at Spring Ridge United Methodist Church in Terry, Mississippi on Saturday, November 30, 2019 with the visitation beginning at 10:00, the funeral service beginning at 12 Noon, and a Celebration of Life Luncheon beginning at 1:00. In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift may be made in her honor to Spring Ridge United Methodist Church of Terry MS, or the Mississippi Animal Rescue League of Jackson MS.
