Mary Louise Jordan died peacefully, Sunday, October 11, 2009 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. A funeral service will be held at 11am Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at Leavell Woods United Methodist Church with burial following at Lakewood South. Visitation will be from 5-8pm Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at Chancellor Funeral home in Byram and will resume from 10-11am Wednesday at the church.\ \ Mrs. Jordan was born on February 12, 1915 in Chicago, Illinois. She moved to Mississippi in 1922 and attended school in Meridian and later graduated from Central High School in Jackson. She met her husband, Bert Jordan, while attending Draughn's Business College and they were married in 1939. They were founding members of Leavell Woods United Methodist Church in 1944 where she continued serving faithfully for 65 years.\ \ Mrs. Jordan, who was fondly known as Mama J, was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be remembered for her love of church activities, scouting, reading, cooking, and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.\ \ She is preceded in death by her parents, George L., Sr. and Louise Barthel, her husband, Bert Jordan, her son, Marvin Jordan, and her grandson, Jay Jordan.\ \ She is survived by her two sons, Billy Jordan of Jackson and Robert Jordan and his wife Carol of Terry; her daughter Susan Ross and her husband Buck of Brandon; six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.\ \ Memorials may be made to Leavell Woods United Methodist Church at 3302 Terry Road, Jackson, MS 39212.
