On Tuesday, January 11, 2022, Matthew “Squirrel” Miller, loving son, brother, friend, and father to two amazing dogs, passed away at the age of 33. A funeral service will be held in celebration of his life on Saturday, January 15th, at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram, MS. Family will greet family and friends from 11:00 a.m.—1:00 p.m. with a 1:00 p.m. celebration of Matthew’s life and the impact that his life had on others. Interment will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson, MS. Matthew was born on May 7th, 1988, in Pascagoula, MS to William “Rusty” and Sarah Miller. He was passionate about college football, dogs, and people. He cared for other people above himself and was known to be the most thoughtful and considerate person. His quirky personality put smiles on the faces of every person he encountered. He had the amazing ability to see the good in everyone and knew just how to make them feel important. Jesus said, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matthew 22:36-40. This is the verse by which Matthew lived his life. He had the heart of a servant. Matthew attended both Auburn University and the University of Alabama. He was an avid Alabama football fan. He worked in the car industry as a service manager before coming to Mississippi to start a family business. He took pride in everything he did. His family got the opportunity to work with him and see him every day. He was preceded in death by Billy Wayne “Poppy” Miller (grandfather), Marion Landers (grandfather), Thomas Pittman (great-grandfather), Sarah “Pop Sarah” Pittman (great- grandmother), Stephen Pittman (Great Uncle), and Jimmie Alverson (Great Uncle). Matthew is survived by his father, Rusty and mother, Sarah; his sister, Caroline; his brother, Andrew; his two dogs, Curtis and Toby; and two grandmothers, Tommye “Mimaw” Hurtt and Mary M. “Jamal” Miller. He is also survived by members of the Landers family: Phil, Marcia, Philip, Jonathan, and Buffy (Chester); the Keith family: Bruce, Tommye, Jacob, Karley (Brown), Ashley, and his special buddy, 2-year-old, Lane; the Hurtt family: Richard, Charlene, Misty, Rachel, and Emily; the Miller family: Robby, Donnette, Mike, Rhonda, Tyler, Justin, and Logan; and a host of family and friends.
