Mattie D. Yates Hampton passed away Sunday, July 19, 2015 at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson at the age of 86 from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Daniel Wade Hampton; her parents, Hubert and Flora Yates; her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Alice Ruth Yates; and her brother, Bill Yates. She is survived by her sons, Mickey (Jan) Hampton of Madison, MS and Wade (Lynn) Hampton of Aurora, CO; brother, Samuel Thomas (Ruby) Yates of Jackson, MS; sister, Jane (Gerald) Carr of Pearl, MS; sister-in-law, Nell Yates; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Mrs. Hampton is retired from Magnetek as a coil winder technician. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Richland, MS where she enjoyed the fellowship and love of her Joy Sunday School class. “Ma”, as she is loving remembered by all she knew, enjoyed taking care of people, especially her “babies”, working in the garden, cooking blueberry crunch, and eating Three Musketeers and chocolate covered cherries. Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 22nd from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and Thursday, July 23rd from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service with Dr. Kevin Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Glenwood Memorial Park in Richland, MS.
