Maxine Duke Berry

Maxine Duke Berry went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 26, 2024, in Florence, MS. She was 93 years old. The family will receive friends and extended family for visitation from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence. The memorial service will begin at 12:00 p.m.

Maxine was born on January 2, 1931, to Marvin Smothers and Ora Franks Smothers in Tennessee. She has lived in Florence for a combined 21 years where she was a member of First Baptist Church of Florence. Maxine loved to read her Bible and she read it from front to back numerous times. Among her favorite things to do was riding horses, traveling, and sitting on her porch looking at the deer. She was also a fan of Mississippi State University. Above all, she loved her family, especially her son, Rocky. She will truly be missed.

Maxine is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Eugene Smothers; and two husbands, Harvey F. “Pete” Duke, and Virgil Berry. She is survived by her children, Harvey Fowler “Rocky” Duke III (Susan), Jeannie Lee Duke (the late Jimmy Duke), and Mark Berry (Wendy); grandchildren, Harvey Fowler “Bo” Duke IV (Amber), Candace Nicole Duke, Chase Joseph Mistretta, Jay Duke (Ashley), Joanna Forrest (Jason), Jennifer Smith (Eric), and Abby Berry; great grandchildren, Anna Claire Duke, Kyla Bullock, Sebastian Parker Bullard, Dayze Grace Duke, Maddox McLeod, Harvey “Fowler” Duke V, Layken Thomas, Hunter Duke, Colton Duke, and Ryder Forrest; and her special caregiver, Toya McDonald.
