Mazelle H. Oubre

Mazelle Roebuck Holbrook Oubre passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at the age of 81. Visitation will be Thursday, April 21 from 5-8pm at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence and Friday, April 22 from 10am until the 11am service at First Baptist Church of Florence. Interment will follow at Florence Cemetery.\ \ Born in Neshoba County on December 25, 1929 to Julius Wesley and Madie Bounds Roebuck who preceded her in death, She graduated from House High School in Neshoba County and Jackson Commercial College in Jackson where she majored in business and accounting.\ \ On December 22, 1949, she married the love of her life, Burnett Holbrook of Magee, MS. They were happily married for 40 years before he preceded her in death in 1990.\ \ She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Florence where she was a member of Sunday School, Senior and Sanctuary Choir and Hand Bells. She also worked with Children's Choir and served on several committees.\ \ She was a Past Matron of Capitol Chapter #348 Order of the Eastern Star. She served as Grand Representative to Puerto Rico and Colorado, District Deputy Grand Matron, Grand Martha and Grand Chaplain. She was an active member of the Southern Belles of Florence Red Hat Society, the Family Research Association of Mississippi. Her hobbies were thread counting, gardening, traveling and genealogy.\ \ She is survived by her second husband, Thomas Oubre of Florence; daughters, Dana Luke (Sammy Sr.) of Yazoo City and Gilda Holbrook of Richland; grandson, Curt Fletcher of Florence; sister, Barbara Hadley (Leon) of Brandon; and numerous nieces and nephews.\ \ In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to First Baptist Church of Florence building fund, P.O.Box 97, Florence, MS 39073 or ESTARL at 138 Northshore Way, Madison, MS 39110.\
