Melodye Anne Smith, 36, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at Baptist Hospital after a brief illness. Visitation will be Thursday, May 26, 2011 from 5-8pm at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence and Friday, May 27th from 10 until the 11am service at ChristWay Church of God in Flowood, MS. A graveside service will be held at 6pm at Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Houston, MS.\ \ Ms. Smith was a graduate of Pearl High School and Hinds Community College with a degree in Business and Office Technology. She worked as a Facilities Information Officer with the State Department of Finance and Administration for 9 years. She formerly worked at the Church of God State office as a secretary.\ \ Melodye was an accomplished musician that won the Church of God Teen Talent Competition in 1990, 1992, and 1994. She also won the Church of God Teen Talent Competition in 1990 and 1992 for Photography. She was a dedicated Church of God youth camp worker and volunteer in youth ministry at her church. She was Runner up in 2009 for the United Way Fund Drive Talent Competition for the Department of Finance Administration of Mississippi and won that same competition in 2010. Melodye received a Presidential scholar award from President George H. Bush. Melodye adored her 3 nephews and her niece, loved "stalking" people on Facebook, and was always positive in spite of her surgeries and disabilities. One of her joys in life was her beloved dog, "Patches". \ \ Melodye was preceded in death by her Aunts, Karen Thayer and Erma Smith; her grandmother, Wilma Katherine Smith; and her grandfather, James Thayer.\ \ She is survived by her parents, Rev. Darrell A. and Dr. Loretta Smith of Madison; brother, Rev. Jeremy Smith and wife Jennifer of Starkville; grandfather, Silas Eugene Smith of Kilmichael, MS; grandmother, Mettie Thayer of Painesville, OH; 3 nephews, Avery, Bailey and Conner Smith; and 1 niece, Delaney Smith.\
