Melvin Lee Barber, Jr., 51, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2014 at his home in Byram. Visitation will be 2-3pm Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. The memorial service will begin at 3pm Sunday in the funeral home chapel. Mr. Barber was born in New Orleans, LA to Melvin Lee Barber, Sr. and the late Edith Roy Barber. He was a machinist/welder who had lived in Byram since April of 2006, having come from Covington, LA. Mr. Barber enjoyed fishing, motorcycles, racing cars, and spending time with his grandchildren. He especially loved his children and grandchildren. He was very proud of their accomplishments, and he was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife Shirley Barber of Byram; father, Melvin Lee Barber, Sr.; sons, Michael Wayne Barber (Jennifer) of Palm Bay, FL, Kevin Lee Barber (Kalisha) of Kissimee, FL, Hunter Hyatt of Lucedale, MS and William Pugh of Houma, LA; daughters, Elena Allen (Nick) of Pass Christian, MS, Kaylee Barber of Gulfport, MS and Leah Dawn Barnhardt (Christopher) of Clinton, MS; brother, Johnny Barber (Rachel) of Bogalusa, LA; sisters, Brenda Downey (Edward) of Slidell, LA, Debra Young (Chris) of Coventry, RI, Erica Barber of Bogalusa, LA; grandchildren, Emma, Lily, Trent, Kiari, Kara, Jaiden, Madison, Kristin, Jonah and Knox. He is preceded in death by his sister Vickie Crawford of Pearl River, LA. Memorials may be made to Batson Children’s Hospital in Jackson, MS.
