Born on November 8, 1941, in Monessen, PA and passed on June 5, 2024, at the age of 82 Mickey spent the first part of his life living and working as a boiler maker in the Northeast U.S. He moved to Mississippi in 1992 and married the love of his life, a true southern belle, Virginia Hemphill. They opened Mason Dixon Sausage Company where Mickey used skills he learned from his uncle to manufact his own sausage, Kowaiski and boudin and opened a burger stand in Florence, MS. Mickey enjoyed serving all his customers especially the kids after school and telling jokes. Mickey always had a big smile and a corny joke for everyone he met.
Mickey is survived by his daughter, Bridgette Saplo Gauld; grandson Seth Saplo; sisters, Kay Romey and Becky Webb (Dr. Hebert Webb); many cousins, nieces, and nephews across the U.S. He is also survived by his buddies down in the swamp where he lived after retirement, Kenny, Gil, Billy, Eric, Angie, Kristi, Brandon, Sue, Dennis, and the rest of the gang.
He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia Hemphill Romey and his cousin, Charles “Chuck” Worley.
A graveside funeral service will be held for the family in Monessen, PA.
A celebration of life will be held on June 29th, 2024, 6pm-10pm in the swamp 120 Copper Head Rd. Florence, MS.
