Ms. Mildred Opal Burnell

Mildred Opal Burnell, daughter of Nathan Crane and Myrtis Barlow Crain was born on April 8, 1931 and was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, August 22, 2017. Mildred’s legacy is her unwavering support of others. Always available to assist someone else and seldom, if ever, desiring the spotlight for herself. A member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in the Clear Branch Community, south of Florence, MS, she selflessly and single handedly raised three children while working for a large part of her career at School Pictures Inc. in Jackson, MS. She was a familiar face at sporting events and ballfields in and around the Florence area. Her serving and supportive personality making her always recognized, but seldom known by attendees and patrons to the concession stands at Hemphill Park in Florence or the softball fields in the Clear Branch Community. She never seemed to crave her own 15 minutes of fame, but found joy in supporting the lives and dreams of others. She was satisfied in serving, blessed from behind the scene. The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 26, 2017 from 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. funeral service at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Clear Branch Cemetery.
