Nancy Hollingsworth Odom, 87, a life-long resident of Florence, Mississippi died peacefully at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, Mississippi surrounded by her family on December 19, 2022. She was born December 26, 1934 in Jackson, Mississippi, the only child of Sue Smallwood and Robert Edward Hollingsworth.
Nancy graduated from Florence High School in 1952. After high school she completed studies at the Jackson Business School and began her life-long career as a bookkeeper and secretary. At her first job she met John David Odom, whom she married on January 22, 1954. She and John David were lifelong residents of Florence where they raised their two children.
Nancy accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior as a young child. She was an active member of First Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and served on a number of committees. She was devoted to her family, always supporting her children in their school functions and athletic events.
She worked in Rankin County in many positions including a secretarial position at First Baptist Church Florence and at Florence High School. She retired in 1996 as an assistant supervisor of child nutrition for Rankin County Schools. Nancy cherished the many friendships she made at each of her jobs.
Nancy loved to cook and be involved in activities in the church and community. She was never shy about expressing her opinion. Always a generous person, Nancy contributed to her church and many people in need. She provided food to friends and neighbors in times of celebration and loss. Her lively spirit and words of encouragement will be missed by both family and friends.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her daughter, Holly Odom Ogletree (Gee) of Madison, and son, Bob Odom (Robin) of Brandon.
