Odis Vernon Sistrunk, age 84, died Monday, March 7, 2015, after a brief illness. He was born in Mitchell, Louisiana on March 22, 1931, to Vernon and Maggie Sistrunk. In 1957, he and his wife Sylvia moved from Westlake, Louisiana to Jackson, where they opened Odis’ Barbecue on the corner of Pearl Street and Gallatin Street. They operated the BBQ stand until 1984, when Odis went into the car business at the same lo-cation. He eventually moved the business, Odis’ Auto Sales, to Terry Road. He worked at the car lot six days a week until the time of his death. Odis was an active member of the Southside Assembly of God since the 1960’s. He served as president of the Jackson Chapter of the Full Gospel Businessmen Association for 14 years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Sylvia Marble Sistrunk. Left to carry on his legacy of compassion and mercy to those in need, are his daughter Cindy Sistrunk Knox and her hus-band Cragin, his son Jody Vernon Sistrunk and his wife Tracey, and grandsons Ryan Lucero and Nathan Lucero. Visitation will be at Chancellor Funeral Home, 7225 S. Siwell Rd, Byram, on Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. Services will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at 11:00 AM, with visita-tion one hour prior to the service at Southside Assembly of God, 665 Raymond Rd., Jackson.
