Patricia “Pat” T. Burkett, 83, passed into the arms of Jesus Saturday July 4, 2020 at her home in Brandon. The family will receive friends for visitation Thursday July 9th at 12:00 p.m. until the 2:00 p.m. Memorial Service at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence. Pat was born February 26, 1937 in Durant, MS to James Herman and Mary Thomas Taylor. Pat was a longtime resident of Rankin County and was a member of Star Baptist Church. She is remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Patricia retired from Butler Snow Law Firm and served as a substitute teacher for McLaurin Attendance Center in Star, MS. Her many hobbies included collecting cookie jars, making quilts, traveling, and gardening, but the one hobby which brought her great joy was camping with her family. In her early years she could be found bowling, which she loved, and was a former State Champion. Those preceding her in death include her parents; her pop Roy G. Wallace; children, James Michael Fortune, Melanie Ann Fortune, and brother William “Bill” Taylor. Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Therrell D Fortune Jr. of Maryland; daughter, Terry F. Cooper of Brandon; son, Jerry P. Roden (Janet) of Brandon; brother, James D. Taylor (Judy); sister, Betty T. McDonald; grandchildren, Christopher D. Fortune, Jeremy D. Fortune, Michael W. “Wes” Cooper (Becca), Jaime C. Temple (Tim), several great grandchildren, extended family, a host of friends and her beloved pets.
