Raymond Billy (Ray) Reed, Jr., 78, of Terry, Mississippi passed away on April 10, 2023 following an extended illness. He was born February 14, 1945 in Jackson, MS but “grew up” all over the world.
After graduating from high school in Anchorage, Alaska, he joined the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Germany. After his service, he attended Eastern Michigan University for a short time before he moved back home and joined the Jackson Police Department in 1971 where he remained for 23 years retiring as a Sergeant in 1994. He then worked as an investigator for the Mississippi Gaming Commission for 11 years. He took on his favorite role as “Pops” to two granddaughters who were the light of his life. He loved spending time with his family, sitting on his porch watching the hummingbirds and watching Fox News and Westerns.
Ray is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Ayn; a beloved son, Billy Reed(Kimberly); and grand-daughters, Raylee and Clara Kate; brother, Donald Reed.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Geraldine Reed; sister, Ann Wilson; brother-in-law, Herbert Wilson; and brother, Douglas Reed.
A visitation will be held at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram on April 14, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. until the memorial service starting at 1:00 p.m.
The family would like to say thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jordan, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Bounds, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Tucker, Mrs. Karen Magee and Mr. Chris Magee, Mrs. Linda Keyes, Mayor Richard White, the Byram Police Department, Pastor Trey Hammond and the Hinds S.O. for all of their support.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Baptist Children’s Village, his favorite charity.
