Rex Minter

Rex Minter passed into the loving arms of Jesus on Sunday, May 7, 2023, in Flowood, Mississippi surrounded by family.  He was 89 years old. The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00 p.m-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence. The funeral service will be held at Briar Hill Baptist Church in Florence on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. There will be a visitation available for one hour prior to the service starting at 11:00 a.m. with burial following the service in the Briar Hill Baptist Church cemetery.

Mr. Rex was born on December 6, 1933, in Delhi, Louisiana. He has been in Florence since 1972 where he was a deacon and Sunday School director for over 25 years at several churches. He was also a charter member helping plant Fellowship Baptist Church in Jackson. He was a true servant of God.

Rex was a Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service for 33 years. In his retirement, he delivered cars for Toyota. He served on the Monterey Water Association board as president and was the water operator from 1988-2000.  Rex also served as a board member for Gateway Rescue Mission. Mr. Rex also served in the United States Army as an MP during the Korean Conflict.  He was an avid outdoorsman, loved hunting and fishing. He was also an avid LSU, New Orleans Saints and University of Southern Mississippi fan.

Mr. Rex is preceded in death by his mother, Ela Picket Minter; father, Jack Minter; and brother, Kenneth Minter. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Hazel Minter of Florence; daughters, Beverly Patterson (Randy) of Brandon and Rachel Dusenberry (Andy) of Florence; brother, Harold Minter (Myrt) of Columbia, SC; sister, Wanda Hammond (Frank) of W. Columbia, SC; sister-in-law, Edna Minter of Gainesville, FL; grandchildren, Drew Dusenberry (Marilyn), Erin Dusenberry, Megan Dusenberry, and Brooks Dusenberry; and his first great-grandchild he was eagerly awaiting, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
