Mr. Richard Gale Kemp

March 26, 1925 — June 4, 2015

Richard Gale Kemp, 90 , passed away Thursday, June 4, 2015 at VA Nursing Home in Jackson. Visitation will be 9:30am until the 11am funeral service Saturday, June 6, 2015 at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. Interment will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park. Mr. Kemp was born in East Prairie, MS to the late Ollie Kemp and Laura Kate Lewis Kemp. He was a WWII Veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific Theater and Philippine Liberation. He received WWII Victory Medal and Purple Heart after a Kamikaze attack off Mindoro Island Philippines on December 21, 1944. Mr. Kemp was a great cook who enjoyed cooking for family and friends. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and the Braves. He is preceded in death by his wife Alyne Kemp; daughter Debra G. Kemp; brother Wayne Kemp and sister Tommy Reese. Survivors include is grandchildren Tony Martin of Byram, Christy Smith (Toby) of Florence; great grandchildren Kayla Martin, Emilee & Gracey Smith. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Purple Heart Foundation
