Robert Bates

Robert D. Bates of Jackson, MS, age 91, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 1, 2010. Visitation will be 5-8pm Wednesday, November 3, 2010 and 10-11am Thursday all at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. Services will be at 11am Thursday, November 4, 2010 in the funeral home chapel followed by interment at Lakewood South.\ \ Mr. Bates was born March 22, 1919 in Greene County to Robert Walter Bates and Georgia Moss Bates. He was a Veteran of World War II and was honorably discharged from the Army Air Corp. in February 1946. After 33 years of service he retired from Desota Manufacturing Co.\ \ He was preceded in death by his mother and father; brothers Samuel Bates and Talmadge Bates and sister Pansy Bates Hammack.\ \ Survivors include his wife of 71 years Lola Abel Bates; sons Curtis Bates (Elaine), Douglas Bates (Patsy Barron), Troy W. Bates (Dena) and daughter Becky Bates Nichols; grandchildren: Johnny Bates (Melissa), Audrey Bates Touchton (Gary) and Jerry Nichols; great grandchildren: Tyler, Makayla, Trinity, Cheyene and Chelsea; great great grandchildren: Landon , Zeke and Braedyn; sister-in-law Laverne Bates; nephews: Marion and Chrisler Hammack, Paul Bates and Roger Bates (deceased); nieces Linda Hammack Reedy and Alice Hasie; numerous other nieces and nephews.\ \
