Robert “Bobby” Bura Hilbun, 73, died August 16, 2014. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 19th from 5-8 PM and Wednesday, August 20th from 10 AM until the 11 AM Funeral Service at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence. Dr. Don Patterson and Pastor Sam Taylor will officiate. Robert was born on August 2, 1941 in New Augusta, MS to the late Rev. Harlan B. Hilbun, Sr. and Mildred Pomeroy Hilbun. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Rev. Harlan B. Hilbun, Jr. Survivors include his wife and best friend, Stella Ruth “Rudi” Hilbun; two children, Machel Oswalt (Ronald) and Heidi Ashmore (Robert); three step-children, Denise Bennett (James), Craig Wilbourn (Kim), and Tonka Sapp (Teresa); two sisters, Jeannine Humphreys (Carney) and Nancy Burkett (Robert); 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandsons. Robert served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was employed by MS Hwy Patrol for over thirty years, during which time he was actively involved in a leadership position with the Credit Union. He also was on of the few civilians selected to be a member of the Retired Trooper Association. He retired as Director of Printing/ Publications. Community was important to Robert. He coached many boys’ baseball teams, was actively involved with the Florence Volunteer Fire Department, and helped establish the Mt Creek Volunteer Fire Dept where he served as Chief and Board Member. He was also a Master Mason with the Evening Star Lodge in Florence. Robert was a active member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church where we was involved with the choir, and as a leader in JAM (Jesus and Me) where he mentored young people. His heart was totally dedicated to the Men’s Ministry outreach program in service to others, and he vigorously supported many charity groups. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, and camping. Robert was well known and loved as a professional prankster. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Men’s Ministry Program at Mountain Creek Baptist Church.
