Robert "Stump" Lee Love, Jr. of Richland, MS, went home to Heaven on October 31, 2024. Visitation will be held at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence on Saturday, November 9, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. service to follow.
Robert was born on September 10, 1958, in New Albany, MS. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and a fierce friend. He was married to his wife Theresa for 44 years. Together, they raised a son and daughter. They shared all of life's joys and hardships. He found joy in God, family, and time spent on the family farm in Eupora, MS with those he held dear. He looked forward to his annual hunting trip to Colorado with good friends. He loved hunting, fishing, good food, a good story, and good music. He fought hard and forgave fast. He never met a stranger. He was a veteran of the Jackson Fire Department, where he served for 33 years. He was also an EMT and rescue diver. Robert dedicated his life to the service of others. His greatest purpose, however, was preparing his children for life and making sure his family had all they needed. The greatest lesson of all, making sure they found their way to God. He spoke of his salvation, that they should not be afraid because he would go first. And, when he got there, he would build a ball field for Adam and place to ride horses with Whitney. He shared these verses with them when they were children.
"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going." John 14:1-4
Robert completed his tasks, and it was time to go home.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa; his son, Adam (Blanca) Love of Biloxi, MS; his daughter, Whitney (Ben) Lightsey of Flowood, MS; his 5 grand girls, Annie Lightsey, Belèn Love, Angel Love, Evelyn Lightsey and Jocie Lightsey; his 2 brothers, Tim Love of Madison, MS and Jason Fortune of Florence, MS and so many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that he adored.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee Love, Sr. and Barbara Lou Fortune; his grandson, Gabriel Love, granddaughter, Angèlica Love, and grandson Barrett Lightsey.
To all his brothers at the Jackson Fire Department, his co-workers at Greater Jackson Mortuary, and all those he worked with over the years that he considered family, we say a special thank you.
