Robert Edward Thigpen, 88, passed away Friday, November 14, 2014 at his home in Florence, MS. Visitation will be Sunday from 2pm to 4pm at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence. A funeral service will be 11am Monday at Briar Hill Baptist Church with a one hour visitation prior to service. Burial will follow at Briar Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Ed was a long time resident of Florence. He was an active member of Briar Hill Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and served in many capacities. He was a US Army Veteran and served in WWII. He retired in 1983 from Western Electric after 36 years of working as a PBX installer. He was preceded in death by his daughter Debbie Driscoll; parents Louis and Gertrude Thigpen; brother Louis Thigpen, Jr.; and daughter-in-law Peggy Ford. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Doris Ball Thigpen; daughter Judy (Richard) Stevens; sons Bobby (Sue) Thigpen and Ken (Chris) Thigpen; son-in-law John Driscoll; grandchildren Kelley Seitz, David (Jennifer) Seitz, Meagan (Michael) Berry and Lauren (Jay) Eklund, Lyndsey (Stephen) Dill, 6 great grandchildren.
