Rodney Dean Herndon went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 11, 2020. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 2020 at First Baptist Church of Florence. For precautionary reasons, there will not be a visitation time and we ask that everyone please wear a mask. Livestream will be available on Facebook at First Baptist Church Florence. Rodney was born October 13, 1964 in Tupelo, MS. After graduating from Shannon High School, he continued working in the family water well business, Herndon Well. His true passion was to serve his community as a volunteer fire fighter. He spent almost 40 years serving at Shannon, Pearl, Florence, and Cleary fire departments. He especially enjoyed the stump grinding business, working alongside his father-in-law and brother-in-law. In 2016 he started working at Blossman Gas Company. Rodney was a family man who always made time for his children. He would drop everything he was doing to be of service to family, friends, and anyone in need. Rodney spent over 20 years faithfully serving the Lord. He served as a deacon for 15 years and on many ministry teams. He was a man of God and used his passion for serving as a fire fighter as his ministry. He was known for sharing the gospel and inviting everyone he encountered to join him at church. Rodney is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Shelley Herndon of Florence; brothers, Marty (Margaret) Herndon of Brandon; Ricky (June) Herndon of Shannon; sister Betty (Clint) House of Tupelo; son Taylor Herndon; and daughter, Abby Herndon both of Florence. He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Earl Herndon of Shannon; mother, Winafred Elizabeth Herndon of Shannon; sister, Susan Kimbrough of Tupelo. Memorials may be made to the Cleary Fire Department.
