Roger Dale Smithhart, Sr., age 71, passed away Saturday, October 2, 2021 at St. Dominic’s Hospital. The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday, October 4, 2021 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm and on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 beginning at 10:00 am until his service of remembrance at 11:00 am. Visitation and service will all be at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence with Bro. Howard Kittrell officiating. Honorary pallbearers include BJ Smithhart, Ben Smithhart, Nick King, Ricky King, Gabe King, David Dyess, and Van Dyess. Mr. Smithhart was born July 11, 1950 in Vicksburg, MS to the late Bobby Lee Smithhart and Mary Adelle Irwin Smithhart. He was an outstanding softball player and participated in tournament ball in which his teams won three national championships. In addition, he enjoyed playing golf with his friends and his son. He even tried his skills at tournament basketball. In his spare time, he loved cooking for his family and friends and even demonstrated that love as part-owner of The Crawdad Hole for several years. Roger was employed for 35 years with Croft, LLC, McComb, MS. Roger enjoyed socializing and he was always the “life of the party”. To know Roger was to love him. He loved his family greatly, especially his children and grandchildren. He was a very dedicated and hard worker and was considered to be a “man’s man”. Roger was a very kind and generous person who would go out of his way to accommodate and do things for others without any expectation of return. Along with his parents, Roger is preceded in death by one brother-in-law, John Trest. Left to cherish his life and memory is his wife, Luann Smithhart of Richland, MS (the love of his life and his soulmate); one son, Roger Smithhart (Xiana) of Mint Hill, NC; three daughters: Judy Impiccini (Doug) of McKinney, TX, Vanessa Shiers (William) of Vicksburg, MS, and Nycole Gentry of Knoxville, TN; one brother, Bobby Smithhart (Lorraine) of Vicksburg, MS; one sister, Kathy Trest of Vicksburg, MS; and his beloved grandchildren: Abram Nelson, Noah Smithhart, Sayrah Smithhart, Tori Shiers, and Cody Shiers; and two great-grandchildren: Annabelle and Tommy Shiers; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of wonderful friends.
