Benton Rudon "Rudy" Brooks, Jr., 62, passed away August 16, 2012 at St. Dominic's Hospital in Jackson. Visitation will be Friday, August 17th from 4-8pm and Saturday, August 18th from 10 am until the 11 am funeral service at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories. \ \ A resident of Florence for the last 6 years, Mr. Brooks spent most of his life in Jackson where he retired from the Jackson Fire Department. He was a member of Wynndale Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon. He was also a charter member of Backdraft Smokers Competition Barbeque team, a Competition Cooking Judge, and he spent time volunteering at Hope Hollow Ministries. He never met a stranger and had the ability to do anything. \ \ Mr. Brooks is preceded in death by his parents, Rudy and Polly Brooks; by his son, Shawn Brooks; and by his brother, Randy Brooks. He is survived by his wife, Connie Byrd Brooks; his son, Cody (Christine) Brooks; grandchildren, Caitlin, Chloe, and Cayleigh Brooks; brother, Warren (Debi) Brooks; sister, Paula Eldridge; In-Laws, Ottis Byrd and Jo Ann Byrd, Toni Jo Brooks, Bob and Donna Kaye Byrd, and Betsy and Steve Simoneaux; and nieces and nephew, Amber (Keith) Turnage, Christi (Jason) Perrett, Brooks (Rob) Koskovich, Melissa Kaye Byrd, Amanda Byrd, Chris Simoneaux, and Marley Lauderdale.\ \ Memorials may be made to Hope Hollow Ministries.
