Ruth Warren Wilson, 82, of Jackson, Miss., passed away on June 27, 2016 at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson. Visitation will be held Friday, July 1, 2016, at 9:30 a.m. and funeral service at 11 a.m. at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial South in Jackson. Mrs. Wilson was born on Sept. 2, 1933 in Neshoba County. She grew up in the Shady Grove community, outside of Philadelphia, Miss. She graduated from East Neshoba High School and East Central Junior College in Decatur, Miss., where she played basketball. She moved to Jackson and worked for Commercial Credit for several years. Mrs. Wilson married Denver Wilson on Nov. 3, 1956 and they were married for 32 years until Denver passed away on July 30, 1989. They had one son, Robert, who was born in 1957. They moved several times during their early marriage years, living in Lafayette, La., Pensacola, Fla., St. Louis, Mo., and Oxford, Miss., before settling down in Jackson in 1962 where she lived until her passing. Mrs. Wilson enjoyed bowling at Cotton Bowl Lanes in Jackson for many years. She also enjoyed talking with her relatives, friends and neighbors on the phone. Mrs. Wilson loved watching her granddaughter, Denver, who she affectionately called “Sweetie,” play sports, especially basketball, and going shopping with her. Mrs. Wilson enjoyed going out to eat with her family and friends. She loved going to get her hair done by Nancy Breland every Friday morning for decades. Mrs. Wilson was an avid reader of The Clarion-Ledger/Jackson Daily News and loved reading the articles written by Robert, her son, who was a sportswriter there from 1981-2004. She enjoyed watching sports, game shows, movies and shows like Andy Griffith on TV. Mrs. Wilson enjoyed listening to music by Elvis Presley and other musicians along with songs by her first cousin, Alvin Hall. She loved going to Alvin’s house every Thanksgiving to see her cousins from all over the South. Mrs. Wilson kept up in her date book with dozens of people’s birthdays and would send them birthday cards every year like clockwork. Mrs. Wilson loved her neighbors over the years and was very appreciative of Eddie Cooper, who was her next door neighbor in South Jackson for the last 15 years of her life. Mrs. Wilson was a long time member of Parkway Baptist Church in Clinton. Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her parents, John Henry Warren and Faye Hamil Warren, and her husband, Denver Wilson. She is survived by her son, Robert Wilson of Jackson, Miss., her brother, Doug Warren (Janice) of Columbus, Miss., her grand daughter, Denver Ashley Wilson of Jackson, Miss., two step grandsons, Dustin Tominello and Derek Tominello, both of Jackson, Miss., four nieces, Laura Warren Miller (Paul), Angela Seaney Cox, Amanda Seaney, Kelly Bailey, two nephews, David Warren and Cam Bailey, five great nieces and six great nephews.
