Ruth Shipp died at her home near Florence, MS on Friday, November 9, 2018 at the age of 91. She was born Ruthie Lee Abel on August, 29, 1927, to George and Lottie Taylor Abel in Carroll County, Mississippi. She had four sisters and one brother. The family later moved to Belzoni, Mississippi, where she met Robert Brumfield Shipp, Jr. They married in July 1947. They had two children, Lydia Ann and Michael Gregory. They moved from Jackson, Mississippi, to the Monterey Community near Florence, Mississippi, in 1966. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert B. Shipp, Jr. her parents, all her siblings and her grandson James Christian Farmer. She is survived by her children, Ann Farmer and Mike Shipp (Stacy), granddaughters Sabrina Farmer Georgen (Dustin) and Chasity Shipp Mohrmeyer (Anthony), grandson Cody Shipp, great-grandsons Kane Sanders and Joshua Sanders and one step-great-granddaughter Shaylin Georgen. There was a private graveside service at Briarhill Cemetery on Sunday, November 11th with Chancellor Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Rev. John Robert Hall, pastor of Monterey United Methodist Church, officiated. The family would like to thank Baptist Hospice for their compassionate care during this difficult time. There will be a life celebration and memorial service at Monterey United Methodist Church (Highway 469 at Gunter Road) on Saturday, November 17 at 3:00 PM. All who knew and loved Ruth are invited to attend to pay their respects to the family and celebrate this remarkable woman’s life.
