Sammie Williams Fortenberry

Mrs. Sammie Williams Fortenberry passed into the loving arms of Jesus on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, in Jackson, Mississippi.  She was 77 years old. The family will receive friends for visitation from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence. The memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m.

Mrs. Sammie was born on April 3, 1946, to Marvin and Grace Williams in Jackson, Mississippi. Mrs. Sammie loved the Lord. She was a student of the Bible and enjoyed watching Charles Stanley and Joyce Myer. She loved the outdoors, and the mountains in Chattanooga, TN, where she lived for 20 years. She loved her family, animals, and her pets. She enjoyed bowling, football and basketball.  She enjoyed sports so much that she coached the girls’ basketball team at Central Baptist Church in Hixson, TN.

Along with her parents, Mrs. Sammie is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Ronald W. Fortenberry.  She is survived by her son, Charles Fortenberry of Hixson, TN; brother, Marvin Williams (Connie) of Florence; grandson, John Michael Blankenship of West Virginia and numerous nieces and nephews.
