Seisel Douglas Campbell

May 20, 1938 — November 3, 2023

FLORENCE

Seisel Douglas Campbell, 85, of Florence passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Friday, November 3rd, 2023. He was surrounded by his sons. He is now rejoicing in being reunited with his wife of 62 years, Jane “Grann” Campbell, and his daughter, Donna Ruth Nichols, in heaven. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 7th at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence, followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 a.m. on November 8th at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence.

Doug grew up in Bolton, Mississippi but called Florence home for over 50 years. He was a member of Marvin United Methodist Church and was strong in his faith and always lead the prayer at every family holiday and event. Doug was the rock at the center of a large and sprawling family and a gentle giant in every sense of the word. Quiet and reserved, he always sat calm amongst so many loved ones, whether it was on the third base side of Dudy Noble Field watching he and Jane’s beloved Mississippi State baseball team or at the end of the third pew on the right-hand side of Marvin’s sanctuary. Later in life, Doug enjoyed maintaining Grann’s many flower gardens with the fear that they would not be up to her standards. His home in Clear Branch was often a gathering place for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Regardless of the location, Doug could always be found quietly contemplating the joyful bounty that he and Jane created together.

Doug is preceded in death by his parents Seisel Campbell and Anne “Sis” Campbell, his wife Jane Campbell, and his daughter, Donna Ruth Nichols. He is survived by his brother, Donald Campbell (Pat), and his sons, Brian Campbell (Vivian), Mark Campbell (Penny), Allen Campbell (Cary), and his son in law Murray Nichols; his grandchildren, Nick Nichols, Jason Nichols, Caleb Nichols, Mitch Carrington, Erin Campbell, Claire Candler, Taylor Nixon, Anna Campbell, Jackson Campbell, and Riley Campbell; seven grandchildren in law; and six great grandchildren, Magnolia Nichols, Tripp Nichols, Elliott Nichols, Holston Graham, Lillian Jane Nixon, and Campbell Ross Nichols.

The family would like to give thanks to Dr. Rod Shields and Bradley Shields, NP at South Rankin Family Clinic in caring for Doug through these many years.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Blair E. Batson Hospital in Jackson, MS, Hogs for the Cause in New Orleans, LA, and Discovery Christian School in Florence, MS.
