Shirley Ann Whittington Tate, 82, passed away Monday, January 8, 2018 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. Visitation will be 5-7pm Tuesday, January 9, 2018 and 12noon till the 2pm funeral service Wednesday, January 10, 2018, all at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. Interment will follow at Lakewood South. Mrs. Tate was born in McComb, MS to the late James Edgar Whittington and Eva Bearden Whittington. She was a longtime resident of Terry and faithful member of Asbury Congregational Methodist Church. She was a devoted wife and mother who created a loving home for her husband and three children. In addition to full time employment as a secretary to James B. Furrh, Jr. Independent Oil Producer, Mrs. Tate was an excellent cook, seamstress and Cub Scout Den Mother. Homemade biscuits were always in hand when her boys left with their dad for early morning hunting trips. She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Irvin Tate. Survivors include her sons, Jeff Tate of Terry and Dale (Lisa) Tate of Madison; daughter, Jennifer (David) Doan of Clinton; grandchildren, Jordan Garner, Justin Grider, Spencer Tate, Walker Tate, Will Doan, Callie Beaukinga, Olivia Bratcher, Sarah Grider and Shelby Doan; great grandchildren, Kennedy, Abbey, Eli and Elle.
