Sidney Glenn "Sid" Thornton, 72, passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS. Visitation will be Friday July 29, 2011 from 9am-11am at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence, MS with funeral services immediately following at 11am in the chapel. Internment will follow at the Florence Cemetery. \ \ Mr. Thornton was born in Smith County, MS on October 13, 1938, to the late Talmadge Dewitt Thornton and the late Minnie Mavis Thornton. Upon graduation from high school, he joined the U.S. Military. Sid proudly served in the United States Air Force where he was stationed at many different military bases around the world. Sid spent the latter part of his military career working and living in San Antonio, TX. After serving 20 years, Sid retired from the Air Force and began working in civil service at Lackland Air Force Base Military Hospital where he remained for 23 years.
