Tillman M. “T. M.” Davis went to sleep in the assurances of Jesus, his Savior, on February 14, 2016. The second of four sons, he was born in Lumberton, MS, November 9, 1923, to Murphy and Willie Mae Davis. After serving with the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II, he married Jackie Sanford May 26, 1947. Until death do us part came for them one day short of their 67th anniversary, when Jackie died May 25, 2014. In his profession as barber for over fifty years in downtown Jackson, he became a wonderful and entertaining repository of tales about U.S. Senators, Mississippi governors and state legislators who frequented his shop in the Walthall Hotel. His love of Southern Gospel music and strong Bass voice could be heard on WRBC Rebel Radio, 1300 on your AM dial during the 1950’s and ‘60’s as a member of the Dixie Echoes Quartet. He was responsible for bringing numerous Gospel groups to Jackson for concerts in the old City Auditorium. Until his health precluded church attendance, he was an active, participating member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. His knowledge of the Bible was encyclopedic: his daily reading habits are well documented by the dog-eared and highlighted condition of his Bible. He is survived by two of his brothers, Murphy and Lavern; by his four children, Barbara Johnson, Tim Davis, Mike Davis, and Mary Helen Hardy; by twelve grandchildren; and by fifteen great-grandchildren. Please offer prayers for those you love who haven’t accepted Jesus as their Savior: the more people T. M. has to converse with in his raised up life, the better he’ll like it. Visitation will be 5-8pm Tuesday, February 16, 2016 and 9am until the 10am funeral service Wednesday, February 17, 2016, all at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. Interment will follow at Midway Baptist Church Cemetery in Sumrall, MS
