Thomas Gary Stewart, JD, 62, passed away at University of Mississippi Medical Center on Friday, October 22, 2010 after a relentless battle with leukemia.\ Visitation will be Sunday, October 24, 2010 from 5-8 and Monday, October 25, 2010 from 10-12 at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. Services will commence at noon with interment following at Lakewood Memorial Park.\ Gary faithfully served the Lord at Griffith Memorial Baptist Church his entire life, including being a deacon, Sunday school teacher, serving on numerous committees, singing in the choir, and just about anything else which needed to be done.\ Gary graduated from Central High School in 1965 where he served as student body president during his senior year. Upon graduation, Gary received a scholarship to attend Millsaps College where he graduated with a degree in accounting. After graduation, Gary accepted a position with the Internal Revenue Service from which he retired in 2009 after 42 years. In the interim, Gary received his Juris Doctorate degree in 1977 from Jackson School of Law (MC School of Law). Gary was also a member of the Mississippi National Guard, Headquarters STARC, where he retired after 27 years of service and obtaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. \ Gary spent many years being involved with youth sports activities at the YMCA and Forest Hill Youth Club, coaching various sports for boys and girls. He was also a referee for many church leagues. \ Gary is survived by his wife of 42 years, Kathy Stewart, children, Jackie Brooks, Karen Grzanich, and Kevin Stewart, his sister Dollie Belk, sister-in-laws Beatrice Stewart , Betty Stewart and Sandra Ingram; numerous nieces and nephews as well as his most prized possessions, his grandchildren: Taylor, Ryleigh, Courtney, Amory, Lane and Tate \
