Thomas H. McDowell

Thomas H. (Tommy) McDowell, 93, went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 30, 2012. Visitation is 4-8pm Monday and 9-10am Tuesday at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence, MS. Funeral services will be at 10am Tuesday followed by burial in the Florence Cemetery. \ \ Mr. McDowell served in World War II in the U.S. Army, Persian Gulf Command in Iran for three years on railway supply lines. After his army service, he worked as a freight conductor for the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad in Jackson, MS for 40 years and retired in 1980. On May 14, 1988, he married his sweetheart, Mrs. Kathryn (Kitty) Shivers Majure of Jackson, MS and they enjoyed retirement by traveling to see family and friends, working on their beautiful flowers and enjoying a relaxing lifestyle at their home on the lake.\ \ He is preceded in death by his grandson, Jay Thomas Morgan.\ He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Kitty Shivers McDowell; daughter: Jane (Tony) Morgan, of Florence, MS; sons: Alan (Christal) Majure of Birmingham, AL; LTC Marcus (Lisa) Majure of Fort Leavenworth, KS and Philip (Kelly) Majure, of Louisville, CO; brothers: Bowdre McDowell of New Orleans, LA and James D. (Ginny) McDowell of Palm Desert, CA; sister: Ann (Thomas) Bardwell, of McComb, MS; granddaughters: Sara (Jared) Morrison and Georgia Majure; grandsons: Taylor, Chase Alan, Hunter and Gage Majure; greatgranddaughters: Tori Morgan and Ava JayAnn Morrison\ \ Mr. McDowell was a life long member of the American Legion Post 106, the VFW Post 5048, the Railroad Coffee Club in Jackson, MS and the First Baptist Church, Florence, MS. \ \ In Lieu of Flowers, Memorial Gifts may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, Florence, MS.\ \ The Family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the VA Hospital and the Palliative Care Unit staff for their care and compassion.
