Timothy “Timmy” Macoy, 49, passed away on February 14, 2025. He was born on May 28, 1975, in Jackson, Mississippi and moved to Richland, Mississippi in 1983. He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Richland and a proud employee of Zavation.
Tim was a devoted husband to Jamie, his high school sweetheart. Together, they have three children, of whom he was incredibly proud. They shared many years of family trips, family dinners, and endless laughter.
Those who know and were loved by Tim at any stage of his life know that he was fond of playing jokes. His mother-in-law’s first memory of him is him driving down the road with the windows open spraying a super soaker at everyone he passed, including her. Stories are still told about a mask with glowing eyes that he put up to the windows of the cabin to startle the campers, or when he would break apart a lighter to shock the nerve in his neck to make his face twitch to freak out the kids. And then there’s the infamous variation of the wampus cat story that had the whole summer camp talking.
He enjoyed sitting on his back porch of his and Jamie’s dream house. He loved it even more when he could enjoy it with his favorite people. Tim was a big fan of having all his friends and his kid’s friends over for huge cookouts and campfires. He recently perfected his recipe for smoked chili and wanted everyone to try it. Anytime he cooked anything he always made sure everyone else ate first and wanted to get their approval to make sure he did a good job.
Tim spent many years volunteering with boy scouts, particularly, Troop 85 in Florence. He went on countless camping trips and hikes, but his favorite was his 7-day, 53-mile hiking trip at Philmont scout camp in 2017 where they summitted Philmont mountains with his son. He was also involved with many events, training, and teaching of merit badges at the climbing tower at Hood Scout reservation in Hazlehurst. There he helped countless scouts face their fears with climbing, rappelling, and zip-lines.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents John and Mary Nell Bullock, John B. and Ethel Macoy, stepmother Brenda Macoy, his favorite uncle Jerry Bullock, and brother Wes Foster.
He is survived by his lovely wife of 30 years, Jamie Macoy, along with his children, Abbie Macoy-Schilling (Jeremy), Gray Macoy (Kayla), and Maddie Macoy. He is also survived by his father, Alton Macoy, mother, Linda Foster (Hilary), father and mother in law Glenn and Linda Robinson, brother Casey (Becky), brother Steve Scheurer (Traci), brother Wayne Lowry (Kim), sister Mandi Nagel (Jason), sister in law Stephanie Foster, brother-in-law Scotty (Lisa), nieces and nephews JR, Zachary, Makayla, and Mary Margaret, along with numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and too many friends that have become family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to scout troop 85 in Florence to create a scholarship fund for scouts in need.
