Timothy “Timhoney” Sean Ooton passed away September 16, 2017, in Ridgeland at Hospice Ministries. Services will be held at Chancellor Funeral Home on Siwell Road in Byram. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 19, 2017, from 5-8pm and from 1-2pm Wednesday with service at 2pm followed by burial at Lakewood Memorial Park in Clinton. Tim was born on February 19, 1965, in Mountain View CA to Thomas L. Ooton and Wilma Marie Ooton. Mississippi became Tim’s home because this is as far north as hid dad wanted to go and as far south as his mom wanted to go. Little did he know the stars had been set in motion to bring me the love of my life. Tim and I attended the same high school. I remember passing him in the hall hurrying to class before the tardy bell rang. Didn’t really think “uh, he’s the one.” He became friends with my brother and he kinda set us up. It was one of those “let’s all go to the monster truck show and my brother backs out and leaves just Tim and I. What a blessing that was. We became friends and could talk about any thing. I think we talked or saw each other everyday from that point on. That man made my heart smile every time I saw him. Didn’t think or realize I was doing it. I automatically smile at the sight of him. We married on October 8, 1988. Though some of his friends had their doubts that we would last, it’s nothing like marring your best friend. Of course we started expanding the family with little ones. He so often referred to me and his daughters as “the girls.” How I loved being his girl, and he was my “Timhoney.” Tim was a soldier, and was very proud to serve his country in the 2/20th Special Forces and gave 21 years of service. He became the supply sergeant for the unit and did his job well. He took care of his fellow soldiers, making sure they had everything they needed whether it was for their monthly drill, annual training or deployments. He always liked finding “cool” stuff for the guys to use too. Being the supply guru was like being a kid in a candy shop. So many cool gadgets and things to choose from. The unit traveled to many different places like Italy, Argentina, Puerto Rico, and of course different parts of our great country. Tim loved being a part of an airborne unit. There was no greater feeling for him than jumping out of a perfectly good plane or helicopter. He absolutely loved being jumpmaster on airborne operations. Maybe it was something about hanging his head out of the back of the plane, feeling the breeze or maybe it was the incredible view of the land below. Whichever it was, Tim lived for it. He was always a soldier at heart. The comradery among soldiers is a tight brotherhood that they all seem to understand. After his military service, he was at a loss as to what was going to be his next career. According to him, there was no other job but to be a soldier. What else could there possibly be. The closest thing would be a job that allowed him to carry a gun on his hip. He was employed with Loomis Armoured Car Services as a driver and guard for several years. After Loomis, he became employed with the Social Security Administration. Now, some of his co-workers at SSA, would say he missed his calling, and should have been in radio or a comedian. He had such a sense of humor and kept a few of his co-workers in stitches all of the time. His favorite thing to do was his different voices and accents over the intercom when calling customers to his window. You never knew which voice he was going to use. It could the voice of the announcer sounding like you have been chosen to be a participant on the Price is Right, or the southern gentleman or Bond, James Bond. He had fun with it and the public loved him. People would come up to his window with a smile or start laughing because he would not be who they expected. Customers would be mad at the world about whatever problem they were having. He knew how to listen and let them vent their frustrations and he would talk to them in a calming manner as to ease their frustrations and guide them as to what could be done to help them. He believed that sometimes people just needed somebody to listen to them and be treated with respect. those who knew Tim, knew what an avid New Orleans Saints fan he was. Every Friday, he proudly wore his team’s jersey, whether it was football season or not. And of course it was number 9 Drew Brees. Tim loved life and of course our only grandchild. He was so excited when Keira was learning to talk, he made sure he was going to teach her his favorite phrase, “who dat?”, and when she learned to say it, he was over the moon with joy. On game day he would bring out the face paint and sometimes Keira would watch the game with him. Sometimes falling asleep in his arms and he had to really try hard to keep his excitement or disappointments to a civil tone as to not wake the sleeping baby. To him having babies fall asleep in his arms was one of the greatest feelings. Wrapped in Papi’s strong loving arms, and that feeling of numbness takes over your arm for fear of waking them up if you moved, would always bring a smile to his face. My heart is breaking and filling with tears for my best friend, my companion, my husband. Not a day will go by that I won’t be thinking of you my love. You will be greatly missed. I love you.
