She was born and raised in Utica, Mississippi She was married to Leroy Lewis in 1946 until Roy's death in 1994. They lived in Jackson raising a family of two sons and one daughter. Momma loved family......she enjoyed every family gathering. Nothing made her happier than cooking a huge meal for her family and her friends. We would sit and talk, laugh, and tell tales for hours. There was always joy in her home. Momma loved people. The more the merrier. Her home was always full of people. She enjoyed being with friends and as she raised her family she entertained not only her children, but all of their friends as well. She retired from Deviney Construction Company where she served as payroll supervisor for twenty five years. Momma was a charter member of Raymond Road Baptist Church where she attended regularly until her death. She was fiercely independent and maintained the family home until well after the ninetieth birthday. She was preceded in death by her husband of forty seven years, Leroy Lewis, her parents, Joseph Eugene and Ophelia Hembree, two brother, Walter Eugene Hembree, George Edward Hembree, and a sister Cora Mohon Crawford. She is survived by two sons, Harvey Clayton Lewis and his wife Charlene, and Larry Eugene Lewis and his wife Toni, and her daughter Rachel Ann Gill and her husband Cliff. She is also survived by her grandchildren--the biggest delights of her life--Joshua Clayton Lewis, Joseph Clifton Gill and his wife Amanda, Molly Ann Maw and her husband Bryan, Heidi McGee and her husband Patrick and Adrian Hughes; six great grandchildren. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
