Velma Welch

Velma Louise Ashley Welch, 90, of Florence, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at CMMC in Jackson.\ \ Visitation will be held Thursday from 5-8pm at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence. Funeral services are 2pm Friday at the funeral home with interment to follow in the Palestine cemetery.\ \ She was born July 15, 1920, to the late Walter Ashley and Jessie Mullican Ashley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Welch; son, Leon Welch; five brothers, Ellis, Vardaman, Scott, John, and Jim Ashley; and two sisters, Minnie Taylor and Alice Lewis. \ \ She is survived by two daughters, Sue Kelly of Byram and Audrey Gregory of Florence; one son, Shelton Welch of Brandon; one sister, Ethel Bass of Florence; six grandchildren, Pam Harrison, John Welch, Charles Welch, Michael Welch, Joey Crain, and Scottie Crain; 17 Great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.\ \ She was a life long member of Antioch Baptist Church and a blessing to everyone who knew her.\ \ We would like to thank Willow Creek Nursing Home in Byram and the staff of CMMC in Jackson for the compassionate care of our loved one.\
