Mrs. Verle Ann Sullivan Plotkin, 94, passed into the arms of Jesus, and beloved family members, Monday, July 5, 2019, at her daughter’s home in Florence, Mississippi. The family will receive friends for visitation from 12:00 p.m. until the 2:00 p.m. service on July 8th in the Chapel of Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram, Mississippi. Burial will follow at Lakewood South Cemetery in Jackson, Mississippi. Mrs. Plotkin was born August 21, 1924, in Mize, Mississippi, to Dewey Preston and Elvie Sullivan. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Oak Forest Baptist Church in Jackson, Mississippi. She was a woman of great faith and an Eastern Star. She was employed at the Hinds County tax collector prior to retirement. Mrs. Plotkin spent the first half of her marriage in New York City and affectionately talked about her years there. She was a loving Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Great great Grandmother. She loved cooking for her family, friends and bringing food to church potluck dinners. Her family affectionately called it “meals on wheels.” She loved people and never met a stranger. A constant sentiment of all who met her was “She was a sweet lady.” Whenever asked how she was doing she never complained and always said, “Better than I deserve.” As a young girl she loved playing basketball. She enjoyed reading, shopping, fishing, and was a devoted Elvis fan. Christmas Eve with family was one of her favorite times of year. Mrs. Plotkin is preceded in death by her husband and love of her life Israel Plotkin, her precious young son Larry Donald Plotkin, her parents Dewey P. and Elvie Sullivan, and her sister Lois Sullivan Smith. She is survived by her children; Allan Max Plotkin (wife Cynthia Plotkin) of Crystal Springs, Mississippi, Marion Plotkin White ( son-in-law Benjamin White, deceased) Florence, Mississippi and Ruth Plotkin Shumaker (James Shumaker, husband) of Germantown, Tennessee, five grandchildren; Glen Myrick, Allan Plotkin, II, Angelique Hasting, Daniel White, Vanessa Shumaker and 11 great grandchildren.
