Vernia Delores Sistrunk Ivy, born November 15, 1945, in Sebastopol, MS, aged 77, resident of Terry, MS, passed from this life on April 17, 2023, and entered her new life with her Savior.
Visitation will be 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram, MS. Services will be 10:00 AM, Thursday, April 20, 2023 at First Pentecostal Church of Jackson, MS with 1 hour visitation starting at 9:00 AM at the church. Interment will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park on Clinton Boulevard.
Mrs. Ivy was a member of the First Pentecostal Church for 72 years. She was five years young when her parents became members. She also attended worship services at Providence Presbyterian Church for a period of time where she had a host of friends. She loved to send greeting cards, as she counted this her ministry and her way of expressing her love, empathy, sympathy, or whatever was appropriate for the occasion. She also supported other ministries over the years. She loved and respected every minister that affected her life in so very many positive ways. She also attended classes at Hinds Community College.
She worked on various jobs for approximately 48 years. She worked in the dental field for nearly 25 years. In May 2018, after working ten years with Watkins Auto Sales, she retired at age 72.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richmond Louis Sistrunk and Mattie Bonnie Langston Sistrunk, daughter, Sue Ellen Ivy, granddaughters, Vernia Ivy and Doña Moore Waites, and husband, Felix O’Neal Ivy.
Survivors include her sons, Michael (Michele) Ivy of Terry, MS, and David (Karen) King of Defuniak Springs, FL; two daughters, Amy (Donald) Moore of Laurel, MS, and Barbara (David) Marell of Freeport, FL; two sisters, Margie Fondren of Austin, TX, and Amanda (David) Maddox of Lexington, TN. Along with those are 12 grandchildren, Alana DeLeon, James Donald (Kimberly) Moore, Dr. Olivia (David) Hollis, Jessica (Otis) Prestage, Amy Jenice Roberts, Autumn Roberts, Ashton Nowell, Toby (Sidney) Collins, Ashley (Corey) Fortune, Stephanie King, Jonathan (Cypress) King, and Nathan (Rebecca) King; and numerous great grandchildren.
