Virginia Petronilla Matthews Cooper Robertson, 88 passed away Sunday, August 7, 2016 at Brookdale Senior Living in Clinton, MS. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 10th from 10 AM until the 11 AM Funeral Service at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence. Burial will follow at Cooper Smith Cemetery in Florence. Mrs. Robertson was born in Teaneck, NJ in 1928. As a young girl, Virginia assisted her father, who was an aeronautical engineer, in the building of Airplanes. Her family moved south to Jackson, MS. She met her husband, Forrest Cooper, Sr., in Jackson and they moved to Florence where they resided for over 40 years. Her husband, Forrest Sr., passed away in 1972 and then she married James M. Robertson in 1974. They were very active in the Wahabi Shrine Temple. Virginia worked for 28 years at the Clarion Ledger and Jackson Daily News. After retirement she worked as a secretary for Dr. Rodigo Galvez and delivered mail. She was active in the Daughters of the Nile where she served 2 terms as Queen and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a Sunday School Teacher at Monterey Methodist Church where she was a member. Ginny was preceded in death by her parents, Aitken and Petronilla Romero Matthews; two husbands, Forrest Cooper, Sr and James. M. Robertson; son, William “Bill” G. Cooper; sister, Elesa Jaycocks; and brother, Kenny Matthews. She is survived by her children, Lori Cooper Stafford and Forrest “FL” Cooper Jr.; step children, Barbara Binkley, Gayle Corley, and Brian Robertson; Clarita Haast, Nita Henderson, George Matthews and Jerry Matthews; 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
